All forms of government strive to gain power over their people. There is no government in the history of mankind that could be used as proof to argue otherwise. Every government has grown and grown until the people realize they have no freedoms left and revolt or leave seeking freedom over their life. Why do people not recognize these problems coming sooner? Even with thousands of previous years of existence and proof of this terrible reality people slowly allow their freedoms to erode away again and again into the hands of their rulers. Part of the problem is that people see these freedoms not as lost but as being given to their rulers to hold them in order for them to provide safety and protection from their enemies. This overwhelming trust that societies give to their all too accepting deceitful governments is nothing more than a complete misunderstanding of personal freedom, rights and economics.
Another major contributing flaw is the belief that government must educate us or we will never learn anything and the poor will never be educated. One of the advantages of a free market is that it does not allow for power to be concentrated in the hands of a few in the form of a monopoly. With government controlling how we are educated through the legislation of monopolized education system that is structured in a way that they feel best meets the political agenda of those running for office. In other words the government continues to grow and the larger it becomes the slower the rest of us are able to move. This is not a coincidence. This is the purpose, to indoctrinate and “to train school children in good citizenship, patriotism and loyalty to the state and the nation as a means of protecting the public welfare.” (http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/opinions/documents/B192878.PDF) , making society easier to control. In history you can see that where people are free to choose how to become educated there is less government control and more personal freedom and prosperity.
People working in these government controlled environments are not recognized for solving a problem, they are recognized for making people fear that the problem is much larger than it is because solving problems in government would decrease or eliminate the powers held by those working for that particular monopoly. By growing their branch of government they are able to make the people more dependent upon the government because the people have come to fear what that sector of government promises to protect them from. When they are successful at scareing the bejesus out of people and regulating an industry into the ground the businesses are no doubt worse off than they were before and much less safe. The health care industry is a perfect example. The politicians then go on to brag to us how much they have done to make these branches of government powerful so they can protect us and save the poor when the situation has obviously gotten worse and some how the people are so indoctrinated it results in the meak crying for the government to do more. Thus creating a government run monopoly where they have all of the power to tell you how businesses must be run in order to protect us or it is punishable by law if you try to provide a better way. This takes away your power and freedom to choose and completely eliminates your chance of increasing your living standards because there is no longer competition between businesses there is zero innovation and advancement. One of my favorite qoutes by Frederic Bastiat is "Competition is merely the absence of oppression." The more of your own freedoms you have for yourself the less power those elected will have. The government can not rule with free and freely educated people and they know it.
