The Power to Choose
In a truly free society each individual is born with a certain amount of power, or rights, and the most powerful right is the power to choose. As Frederick Bastiat stated in his timeless book The Law, "Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws. On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty, and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place." So why can we not choose what schools we want our children to go to? The government has a monopoly over the education market in this country. Which I don't understand because it is illegal for businesses to have monopolies in the USA?
